How to instruct KerryWhat is a life expectancy report?
It is a reasoned expert opinion about likely remaining lifespan, based on the available individual evidence and relevant research. It explains the reasoning and uncertainty; it does not predict a date of death.
Who can discuss an instruction?
Solicitors, professional deputies, attorneys and other professional decision-makers can contact the Nellie Supports team. If you are enquiring as a family member, explain the purpose of the report so that the appropriate route can be considered.
Is a report based only on a diagnosis?
No. A diagnosis is one part of the evidence. Functional ability, frailty, care needs, co-existing conditions and the person’s recent course can all matter. The strength and relevance of each source need to be considered.
Can a report be prepared for court?
Kerry prepares life expectancy reports for legal proceedings. The instruction must identify the court, the questions to be addressed and any directions. For civil proceedings, CPR Part 35 and its practice direction apply where relevant; other proceedings have their own requirements.
How are fees and timescales agreed?
Ask the team for a quotation based on the scope of the questions, the volume of records and any court deadline. Current availability, the fee and the expected reporting timetable should be confirmed before the work is agreed.
